Aftercare Instructions

Your tattoo has been covered with a clear, adhesive bandage. This product functions as a breathable, protective barrier—essentially acting as a second skin during the initial healing phase.

**Important:**

  • Avoid any activity that induces sweating while the bandage is in place. Trapped perspiration can compromise healing.

  • It is recommended to keep the clear bandage on for 3 to 5 days. During this period, it is normal for plasma (a clear fluid) to accumulate beneath the bandage.

  • Do not attempt to release or drain this fluid—your body will naturally reabsorb it.

Showering is permissible, HOWEVER, do not allow water to flow directly over the bandage, as this may break the seal prematurely.

If the bandage becomes compromised (e.g., it leaks, peels away, or opens), remove it immediately and proceed to the steps outlined below.

Bandage Removal

After 3–5 days, remove the bandage using clean hands, preferably in the shower:

  • Let warm water run over the bandage to help loosen the adhesive.

  • Gently peel up an edge and slowly stretch the bandage along the skin’s surface, similar to removing a Command strip.

  • Avoid pulling the bandage directly upward or away from the skin, as this can cause unnecessary irritation.

Cleaning and Moisturizing

Once the bandage has been fully removed:

  • With CLEAN HANDS, gently wash the tattoo with warm water and a mild, unscented liquid soap.

  • Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel, or allow it to air dry.

  • After the area is completely dry, apply a small amount of healing ointment (e.g., Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, etc.). Rub it in gently, then blot off any excess. The tattooed skin should feel moisturized—not greasy or shiny.

Repeat the above process 2 to 3 times daily for 3 to 4 weeks.

After 2 weeks, you may transition to an unscented lotion for continued moisturizing. Use healing ointment as needed if the tattoo feels extra dry, itchy, or tight.

What to Expect During Healing

  • Itching and flaking are normal within the first week.

  • A dry, flaky layer of skin may form and will naturally shed—this may include small flecks of color, which is normal and not a sign of ink loss.

  • Do not pick or scratch the tattoo, as doing so may cause scarring and negatively affect the final result.

Tip: If itching becomes intense, a quick slap (with clean hands) can help relieve the sensation.

Preventing Infection and Promoting Healing

Failure to follow aftercare instructions may lead to extended healing time, infection, or a suboptimal final appearance.

To reduce risk:

  • Wear loose, clean clothing

  • Change bedding regularly (especially if you share your bed with pets)

  • Only touch your tattoo with CLEAN hands

  • Do not allow others (including pets or children) to touch the area

Some redness, swelling, and mild irritation are normal in the early stages.

** Please consult a healthcare professional at the first sign of infection! **

  • Things to look out for:

    • Continued or worsening swelling, redness, or irritation.

    • Increased pain or tenderness as days go on.

    • Yellow or Greenish discharge coming from the tattoo.  (Clear plasma is normal).

    • Heat or warmth.  If the tattooed area is noticeably warmer than the surrounding skin, that can indicate an infection.

    • Chills or fever.

Activities to Avoid (Until the Tattoo is Fully Healed)

  • No soaking: Avoid hot tubs, pools, saunas, baths, and natural bodies of water.

  • No excessive sweating: Minimize strenuous activity for at least 1 week (preferably 2–3 weeks). If unavoidable (e.g., work in a hot environment), keep the area covered in breathable, loose fabric and wash the tattoo promptly afterward.

  • No sun exposure or tanning: Keep your tattoo covered by clothing. Do not apply sunscreen until the tattoo has completely healed. Once healed, sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher, reapplied every 2 hours) is highly recommended to preserve the tattoo's appearance.

  • No touching with unwashed hands: Refrain from excessive handling of your tattoo, even with clean hands. Please also prevent pets and small children from making contact.
